About Dr. Milagros Gundran Taekema
As a clinical psychologist and an expat, myself, I understand first-hand the emotional complexity of life abroad. My journey began in the Philippines, where I earned my master’s and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. Since then, I’ve worked across multiple countries—including the United States, Australia, and now the Netherlands—gaining insights into how culture and environment shape our thoughts, behaviours, and well-being.
Through years of experience in psychotherapy, human resources, academia, and organizational development, I’ve developed a deep understanding of people in both personal and professional contexts. I now focus on helping expats navigate emotional challenges such as depression, anxiety, burnout/workplace stress, identity loss, PTSD and relationship struggles.
My therapeutic approach
I provide a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where clients can speak openly—whether online or in-person. My sessions are always conducted in English and designed to suit your cultural and emotional background.
Therapy with me is collaborative and practical. I combine evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to create tailored strategies for healing and growth.
But beyond techniques, what defines my work is empathy. I aim to truly understand how you see the world, so we can build new perspectives together—ones rooted in resilience, clarity, and personal meaning.
Living abroad, understanding within
Having lived in different countries and cultures, I know how disorienting and isolating the expat journey can feel. This lived experience allows me to connect with clients on a deeper level. I don’t just offer clinical expertise—I offer understanding.
If you are seeking guidance from someone who truly gets what it means to start over in a new country, I am here to walk with you on that path.
